Helderberg Wine Route
The Helderberg Wine Route is proud to announce a marketing collaboration with newly opened Agriturismo restaurant, La Masseria, which is situated next to the R44 close to the Annandale Rd junction.
Run by slow food exponent, Miki Ciman and her husband Lorenzo, the re-estalishment of the venue is a dream come true for this well-known foodie. "After leaving the area when we closed our restaurant on Dornier in the early 2000's, we've always wanted to return to our roots against the Helderberg," says Miki.

Known for their home cooked Italian food, which is based on fresh, mostly organic seasonal ingredients and their hand-crafted cheeses and smoked meats, the restaurant is based in a spectacular old homestead visible from the road.

Already popular with those in the know is the deli with their produce for sale as well as the restaurant which offers a small menu which changes daily, depending on availability of ingredients. At the back of the venue is a permanent marquee which can seat up to 400 guests and a stunning patio overlooking the vineyards at the back, which is perfect for Al Fresco dining.

In keeping with their philosophy of supporting producers from the region, Miki is running a monthly wine promotion where a Helderberg Winery will get the opportunity to present their wines to restaurant guests. Although wineries can be as involved as they want, patrons will generally get the chance to taste the wines of the month, participate in wine & food pairings, enjoy special events built around the wines and much more.

First-off is Avontuur Estate with their popular Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, some award-winning reds and their pot-still brandies. From December onwards visitors can try wines from Eikendal, Journey's End, Peter Falke, Bilton and Somerbosch, with Yonder Hill, Waterkloof, Vergenoegd, Grangehurst, Lourensford and Romond leading up to October 2011.

"This campaign forms part of our commitment to getting the Helderberg wines listed with restaurants and accommodation establishments in our area," says wine route chairperson, Margi Hoffe.
