Looking back in time ... and forward in istory

Bowe Jouberts history spans back to 1695 when Simon van der Stel allocated the farm Veelverjaaght to Coenraed Visser. A hundred years later dirk Daniel Joubert, of French Hugenot descent, bought the farm and subsequently divided it between his two sons. One son retained the Veelverjaaght name, while the other named his portion La Provence, to honour the birthplace of his forefathers. A

new era for the farm began in October 2000 when owner-brothers Jannie and Lukas Joubert entered into a joint venture with Bahamian businessman Alphonso Bowe, and Andrew Hilliard from Green Bay, Wisconsin, the third partner. The new company took the name of the major players to become known as the Bowe Joubert Vineyards and Winery. The principal grape varieties on Bowe Joubert are cabernet sauvignon, merlot, shiraz, pinotage and cinsaut. White varietals include chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and chenin blanc.

These vineyards will supply the winery with the grapes needed for the companys estimated 600 000 litre annual production under the watchful eyes of Lukas Joubert, vineyard manager, and his advisor, Dawie le Roux. Premium wines will be sold under the Bowe Joubert label, while other wines described as "fruit-driven, easier drinking wines" will be sold under the second label, Oak Lane. During the harvest, local wine consultant mark Carmichael Green and Californian Jason Ficher, from the Constantino Winery in the Napa Valley, were on hand to assist winemaker Jannie Joubert in the cellar.
