Highly acclaimed chef George Jardine and award winning winemakers Gary and Kathy Jordan have joined forces and opened a new restaurant on the grounds of Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on December 1.
The Jordan Restaurant is located next to the estate's tasting room and seat up to 80 guests, either indoors or outside on the patio.

The partnership brings together the Jordans, owners of one of the country's best known and respected wineries, with former South African Chef of the Year Jardine, whose eponymous restaurant in Cape Town was recently listed in the San Pellegrino World's 100 Best Restaurants for the second year in a row.

George Jardine's menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients sourced from South Africa's best suppliers and producers. The restaurant houses a selection of the finest seasonal South African cheeses in a walk-in cheese room. Guests are able to join George Jardine in the cheese room to make a personal selection.

Several works from South African artist, Paul du Toit, feature in the restaurant. There are also two unique outdoor sculptures on the grounds.

Vintages from Jordan Wine Estate will form the cornerstone of the restaurant's wine list. The Jordan Restaurant will also stock vertical vintages of Jordan Wine Estate's Cape Winemakers Guild offerings, along with choice wines from Stellenbosch wineries such as Le Riche and Raats.

Gary and Kathy have also source a selection of leading Bordeaux and Burgundies from close contacts in the French winemaking community to feature on the wine list.

"George is quite rightly recognised as one of the finest chefs in South Africa, and we are delighted to be working with him and his wife Louise on such an exciting project," said Gary Jordan, co-owner of Jordan Wine Estate.

"We have been making wines to be served with great food for nearly 20 years, so opening a restaurant on the grounds is a natural progression for us and we are looking forward to showcasing the best of Jordan Wine Estate to our customers."

"The estate has an absolutely stunning setting, and is the perfect place for Louise and me to personally attend to our guests, to pamper their palates and de-stress their minds.

We have built in a huge wood-fired oven and custom-built char grill which will allow us to cook with different wood and vine coals and create some memorable dishes. This will be a fantastic experience for our customers, where they can experience the highest levels of cuisine and service matched to some truly great wines," said George Jardine.
