Bot River Valley
This year the Bot River Barrel race event was exhilarating, the scene of
barrels rolling at light speed and teams pushing themselves to the
limit had crowds cheering in support!
Rolling barrels for funds has never been so much fun, this yearly fund raising event for the Bot River Education fund orchestrated by the Bot River Wine Valley Association was upped this year due to the great response from entrants.
Prego rolls made my Feiteiras Vineyard's owner Jose Andrade kept participants beefed up for their races and Zest Catering catered for those with a need for speed with their Curry in Hurry.
On the day of the race a family from the UK on vacation entered as a team and proudly named themselves Team UK, their kids also entered the new addition to the barrel race; Kids Roll For Fun division.
Of the 18 teams entered, Hemal and Aarde wine producer Kevin Grant and made a play for the prize with his team Ataraxia against Elgin Wine producer; James Downes from Sharron Vineyards competing with gust to triumph a place in the semi- final.
A close final between Gabrielskloof Winery and Eerste Hoop Winery resulted in the first prize going to Eerste Hoop , winning a wine barrel to the value of R7000 from Radoux Barrel Producers.
Leon Engelke, winemaker for Eerste Hoop, plans to use this new barrel to produce a fine wine to celebrate and enjoy with his team members.
Overall the day was a great accomplishment , team winners Eerste Hoop are proud that they can keep the trophy in the Bot River Valley and put out a call to all participating teams next year, catch us if you can!
A special thanks to Wine Barrel sponsors Demptos and Radoux.
