Stellenzicht, known for exceptional red wines produced in the famous Golden Triangle on the slopes of the Helderberg, had an exceptional run again this year at the 2008 Michelangelo International Wine Awards with one Grand d'Or, two gold and four silver medals.
Stellenzicht's Grand d'Or was awarded in the hotly contested Shiraz category to the 2004 Cellarmaster's Release, one of only eight out of 196 Shiraz entrants to walk away with a double gold medal. This Shiraz was produced as a once-off special release from exceptional barrels found to be superior and unique by celebrated winemaker Guy Webber. Another of Guy's special selection Cellarmaster's Releases, the 2006 Pinotage also stood out at the competition as a gold medallist. The second Stellenzicht gold medal was awarded to the Golden Triangle Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, whilst the silver medals went to Stellenzicht's Golden Triangle Shiraz 2004, the 2003 Syrah, the Golden Triangle Pinotage 2006, and the Hill&Dale Pinotage 2006.

Stellenzicht is recognized as a pioneer of the Shiraz revolution in South Africa and is home to a range of exceptional wines with a strong sense of place shaped by the unique location in the heart of the Golden Triangle flanked by the Stellenbosch and Helderberg Mountains. It is also one of South Africa's most celebrated Pinotage producers with no less than five ABSA Top 10 wines. Guy who is passionate about this home grown varietal and has an impressive personal tally of seven Top 10 Pinotages, was recognised as one of South Africa's Pinotage Masters by the ABSA competition last year.

"We are fortunate to be able to make wine in this area which is considered possibly the best grape growing region in the country. It offers huge diversity in altitude, slope orientation and soil, and is ideal for a variety of cultivars creating wines of superb quality and elegance," said Guy.

Situated just 12 kilometres away from the sea, the Stellenzicht vineyards impart rich complexity to the wines through the varying soil types and cooling False Bay breezes that prolong the ripening process.

The Michelangelo International Wine Awards is a unique South African competition as all the wines are judged by an international panel of experts with only one local representative. In accordance with the rules of the competition, only 30% of the entries are awarded medals.

Stellenzicht is open for wine tasting and sales from 09h00 - 17h00 on weekdays and on weekends and public holidays from 10h00 - 16h00.
