Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate outside Paarl has introduced a refreshing substitute for wine in the form of EGA (spelt age in reverse).  Created and produced in the Winelands of the Western Cape, EGA is an incomparable, alcohol free product.
Combining the vibrant flavours of grapes, pomegranates and Rooibos, this crisp and zesty drink is an excellent alternative to white wine with a meal. During January 2007, various red and white grapes were harvested green from vineyards in the Paarl area. These bunches, not yet fully ripe, were destalked, pressed and allowed to settle.

Natural extracts of pomegranate and Rooibos were added after which the EGA was lightly filtered and bottled. Pomegranate extract has no added sugar, calories or additives, is high in folic acid and is one of the leading sources of antioxidants.

The home-grown Rooibos plant has become world-renowned for its high levels of antioxidants and lack of caffeine and has for centuries been prized for its healing properties by the indigenous people of South Africa. EGA is scintillating salmon pink in colour with characteristic Rooibos and pomegranate aromas. The crisp acidity creates a fresh mouth-feel, while the sugar provides fullness and richness on the palate. Fruity and refreshing, it can be enjoyed on its own or over ice.

EGA is bottled in a distinctive square-shouldered 750ml bottle and retails for R35 from Fairview's cellar and Farm Eatery, The Goatshed.
