Leopard's Leap
Leopard's Leap is full of ideas for a marvellous May, whether at home or on holiday.

Are you joining us on the Leopard’s Leap trip around the world? In May, we stop in Maputo!

It is a lovely time of year to visit the Mozambiquan coast, you can enjoy the best of African music, cinema and dance at the Azgo international arts festival and of course, the Portuguese-inspired cuisine and fresh seafood are always a hit – especially if you enjoy them with Leopard’s Leap wine, which is available all over town!

Are you lucky enough to have May in Maputo on your itinerary? Nature, history and culture combine to promise a wonderful visit. Click here for some of the main activities and attractions, such as the Museu De História Natural de Maputo, the Maputo Special Reserve, part of the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area, horse-riding on Macaneta beach, big game fishing and of course Ponta do Ouro for the most amazing scuba diving.

The local cuisine is strongly influenced by the wonderful seafood from the Maputo coastline as well as its rich Portuguese heritage. Click here for some of the best restaurants to visit or if you want to cook your own seafood or light a braai, get your ingredients freshly caught from the Maputo Fish Market – it's also a cultural experience of note! Make sure to get your favourite Leopard's Leap wine too! They are available in Maputo wine shops, Shoprite, Game, and the Socimpex shop (2236 Av. 24 de Julho).

What wine do you choose with your Maputo meal? "Fresh seafood is such a luxury that I don't think it is necessary to drown it in too much sauces and spice," says winemaker Renier van Deventer. "The refreshing Leopard's Leap Sauvignon Blanc is always a great choice when you dress your seafood with a little lemon juice and a touch of black pepper, but if you want to experience Mozambique's Portuguese spice heritage, perhaps Chenin Blanc is a good idea with your paprika prawns and peri-peri chicken! The spicier it gets, the more complex your wine should be. So for just a little touch of warmth, go for our Classic Chenin Blanc. It is however, the great combination of being both cool and complex, that will make our Culinaria Chenin Blanc the perfect choice for those real hot flavours and when you order or braai an authentic peri-peri chicken!"

For those of us who feel like a beach holiday, but will most probably spend May in our own backyard, Chef Christiaan shares a few recipes and wine pairings that will make you feel like you're on Maputo's Inhaca Island. These are available via our website.

GIVEAWAY: Inspired by the culture and cuisine of Maputo? You stand a chance to win an marvelous Maputo-inspired hamper with 6 of your favourite wines from our Classic Collection as well as a host of delectable Mozambiquan goodies, when you buy any 6 bottles of Leopard's Leap wine from leopardsleap.co.za during May.

Leopard love

On 3 May, we celebrated International Leopard Day! Pardus, the magnificent male on the picture below, roams Franschhoek’s Wemmershoek mountains and was named after the Latin word for leopard or panther. He also shares his name with a wine! Pardus, by Leopard’s Leap CEO Hein Koegelenberg is a special red blend that recognises the intense charisma and feline elegance of these wild cats, but also honours the Cape’s natural beauty and rich biodiversity.
