Blaauwklippen
Chocolate, macarons, mini pizzas, and arancini balls turn wine tasting into a winter food-and-wine experience at Blaauwklippen.

Wine pairings give visitors a warm, sensory reason to linger at Blaauwklippen in winter.

Winter is the season when wine pairings make the most sense. The glass is no longer only a tasting note. It becomes chocolate, macaron, pizza, arancini, a warm room and a reason to linger.

At Blaauwklippen's Tasting House, pairing is one of the estate's strongest visitor experiences. The offering ranges from guided tastings to food-led pairings that make wine more approachable without making it ordinary. Guests can choose something indulgent, something savoury or something proudly rooted in local flavour.

The 1682 Pairing gives the story its heritage centre, connecting South African flavours to the estate's long winemaking history. Chocolate and macarons make the experience more sensory and immediately enjoyable. Pizza and arancini bring a relaxed table rhythm that suits groups, couples and visiting friends.

Wintery wine pairings at Blaauwklippen

  • 1682 Pairing: A celebration of heritage and innovation through four unique pairings of local flavours with Blaauwklippen wines: Malbec and a bobotie spring roll; Cabernet Sauvignon and beef carpaccio; the flagship reserve De Blaauwe Klip and oxtail ravioli; and 10YO Potstill Brandy and a mini malva pudding.

  • Wine and Chocolate Pairing: A refined pairing of artisanal chocolates and fine wines. Discover five thoughtfully curated combinations: House of Zin Rosé with coriander chocolate; Malbec with white spice chocolate; De Blaauwe Klip with coffee and ginger chocolate; 10YO Potstill Brandy with spicy orange chocolate; and the signature Before & After Aperitif with chilli chocolate.

  • Heritage Wine and Macaron Pairing: Celebrate local flavours with five handcrafted macarons, each thoughtfully paired with a signature Blaauwklippen wine: Zinfandel Cap Classique with an Ouma buttermilk rusk macaron, Chardonnay with a milk tart macaron, Cabernet Sauvignon with a naartjie and dark chocolate macaron, Malbec with a condensed milk coffee macaron, and Reserve Cabernet Franc with a peppermint crisp macaron.

  • Pizza Pairing: Savour four mini artisanal pizzas perfectly paired with four Estate wines: Chenin Blanc and Athena (feta, rosemary, onion and garlic), Chardonnay and Marinara (prawn, calamari, garlic and chilli), Shiraz and Formaggi (brie, gorgonzola, mozzarella and parmesan), Cabernet Sauvignon and Quattro Stagioni (ham, artichoke, olives and mushroom).

  • Arancini Pairing: A pairing of four arancini balls with four wines: Chenin Blanc and a scampi arancini topped with lemon butter sauce; Chardonnay and a mushroom, creamy truffle oil and parmesan arancini; Rosé and a butternut arancini topped with creamy napolitana sauce; and De Blaauwe Klip and an oxtail arancini topped with oxtail jus.

For a winter winelands day, the formula is simple: book one pairing, let the tasting lead the conversation, then allow the rest of the estate to complete the visit. It is wine as experience, not just wine as product.
