Donald Trump’s latest escalation of the trade war with Canada could shut some Canadian alcohol out of the US from the end of this month, potentially affecting major drinks companies on both sides of the border.
This is the latest escalation of the trade war between the two countries in retaliation for Canada banning American products such as bourbon and beer.
Investors fear that could include products such as Diageo’s Crown Royal Canadian whisky, which a 50% US tariff had already hit.
While the ban could create an opening for American-made whisky and beer brands in their home market, the overall impact is less clear because other trade restrictions in Canada could offset any gains in the US.
