Winemaker Marc Sangoy, president of the Cave de Lugny, told AFP that the producer had started picking on 8 August, in advance on the previous early harvest record, which was set in 2022, of 13 August.
Sangoy, who is president of the cooperative in Saône-et-Loire which has around 1,250 hectares of vines, said that he had never experienced a harvest this early in his forty-year career, but that the “optimum moment” for picking the Crémant de Bourgogne, which must not exceed 11.5° ABV, had come early.
“If you know how to harvest it at the right time, quickly enough, yes, it will be a good, well-balanced vintage,” he said.
