This continues the fundamental downward trend seen since the early 2020s. Export revenue fell to €555 million (–12% year-on-year), down from €773 million in 2022.
Sales volume also decreased to 1.8 million hectoliters (–9%), falling to less than half of the volume recorded in 2020 (3.8 million hl). This was reported by the Italian wine industry platform I numeri del vino on July 2, 2026, based on UN Comtrade data.
Accounting for around 90% of revenue, bottled wine traditionally plays the largest role among the export categories. Consequently, the decline in this sector mirrored overall exports (€508 million, –12%).
