This August, Babylonstoren invites visitors to make the most of winter on Babylonstoren – from a short and sweet blood orange season to abundant weekend brunches, restorative spa experiences, Soetmelksvlei outings, seasonal workshops, and winter accommodation offers at both Babylonstoren Farm Hotel and BLOU in Keurbooms.
Winter’s most welcome blush
Blood orange season is short, spectacular and not to be missed. Babylonstoren’s bumper harvest has been picked and carefully rested in cold rooms, allowing the flesh to deepen to its signature ruby red.
On Sunday 2 August, visitors are invited to celebrate Blood Orange Day on the farm. Tasting stations and activities will be dotted around the garden and Farm Shops, with blood oranges served fresh, squeezed, preserved, baked, churned into gelato and swirled into seasonal treats.
For those who would like to enjoy the harvest at home, blood orange abundance boxes are available from the Farm Shop and online.

The Boland’s best brunch
Until the end of August, Babylonstoren’s Greenhouse Restaurant is serving an abundant winter brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Guests are invited to gather family and friends around a generous harvest table filled with produce from the gardens, orchards and bakery, followed by a choice of two hot breakfasts served with tea or coffee. Should the winter rain arrive, wood-burning stoves and wholesome farm fare will keep guests cosy.
After brunch, wander the gardens, farm pathways and seasonal displays at leisure. Children under eight dine free. Online booking is essential.

The conversation starter
Our Babel red blend was made for sharing. Anchored by Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, this full-bodied red comes into its own with long fireside chats and around the table, paired with a robust meal. To add warmth to the winter chill, Babel red blend is available at a reduced price throughout August.

Embrace a gentler pace at Soetmelksvlei
Soetmelksvlei has reopened after its annual break and is welcoming visitors back to its growing animal family, traditional crafts, hands-on activities and hearty home-cooked fare.
Guests can enjoy a farmhouse breakfast or long lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before spending the day exploring the many layers of late 19th-century farm life – a time when daily necessities were made by hand and heavy work was done with the help of four-hoofed friends. Except for Faff and Tjokkie, the miniature donkeys, who are back in training for rugby season.

Flowers for the eating
The garden is stirring from the ground up. Sorrel, garden cress, fennel, nettles and herbs are flourishing, with dandelions and nasturtiums adding bright pops of colour and flavour. We’re harvesting basketfuls of waterblommetjies from our ponds, while our tunnels bring crisp peas, long-stem broccoli, golden turmeric and juicy heirloom tomatoes.
This month is your last chance to see master pomologist Anton Roux’s extraordinary arbour art in the Puff Adder walkway. These living tree sculptures offer a glimpse of horticultural artistry that few ever get to experience.
BabylonSTORIES celebrate citrus
The August episode of BabylonSTORIES steps back in time at Soetmelksvlei, where Medwin Dombass, assistant activities manager, shares the rituals and realities of portraying farm life in 1897. Listeners can expect thoughtful reflections, a few curious animal cameos and a closer look at the layers of late 19th-century farm life.
BabylonSTORIES vodcast is available on the Babylonstoren App, YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts, with a new episode released every mid-month.
