This June, join Stellenbosch Reserve for a comforting three-course blackboard menu crafted to pair perfectly with a wine.

June arrives with a chill that calls for comfort – not elaborate comfort, but the kind that is warm and certain and true. At Stellenbosch Reserve, the winter special answers that call with three courses that feel both considered and generous, each one earning its place beside a properly selected glass of wine. Each month this winter, the restaurant will offer a different blackboard special.

For June, we present our blackboard menu built for cold evenings and good company. Three courses that move from golden arancini to warm pecan cake, with a glass of red as the common thread.

Corn and parmesan arancini

Crisp on the outside, soft and yielding within: the snap of the golden crust giving way to a warm, cheesy centre that lingers on the palate.

Pairing suggestion: Stellenbosch Reserve Chenin Blanc

Sirloin steak

Served with mushrooms and creamy mash. The kind of plate that anchors the meal, substantial, deeply savoury, and made for a glass of Stellenbosch red.

Pairing suggestion: Stellenbosch Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Warm pecan nut cake

With caramel sauce – rich and familiar in all the right ways. The kind of dessert that recalls a grandmother's kitchen and the best kind of winter afternoon.

Pairing suggestion: Cirrus Pinot Noir

The June menu does not attempt to surprise; it simply commits to being excellent at the things that matter most when it's cold outside. That commitment, as any Stellenbosch regular will tell you, is its own form of ambition.

Look out for the upcoming blackboard specials for the next two months: In July it's artichoke tempura with hoisin; lemon and herb lamb chops with chimichurri; and apple cake with ice cream. And in August enjoy mussels in creamy white wine sauce; braised short rib with green beans and mash; and classic tiramisu.

The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday from 12h00 - 15h00, and dinner Thursday to Sunday from 18h00 - 21h00.

The special costs R550 for three courses.
