Rijk's Wine Estate
Rijk's Wine Estate reflects on the recent storm, which marked the highest rainfall ever recorded on the farm over a single storm period.

Earlier this month, the storm that moved through the Western Cape brought some of the heaviest rainfall Tulbagh has seen in many years. At Rijk's Wine Estate, it marked the highest rainfall ever recorded on the farm over a single storm period.

While the rain brought flooding and some damage across parts of the property and valley, it also left the landscape transformed — rivers running strong, vineyards deeply soaked, and the farm greener overnight.

The past few weeks have been spent cleaning up, repairing, and slowly returning things to normal around the estate.

Farming comes with a deep respect for nature and all that it brings. The calm, the chaos, the beauty, and the unpredictability. It keeps us grounded, humbled, and deeply connected to this place we call home.

Our thoughts remain with everyone in the valley and surrounding areas who were affected by the storm.

And while winter has certainly arrived in full force, there are few better ways to spend a cold evening than with a good bottle of red wine, something warm on the table, and the sound of rain outside.

Whether you’re opening a bottle of Pinotage by the fire or stocking up for the colder months ahead, our wines are available online to enjoy at home this winter.
