Blaauwklippen
At Blaauwklippen, Chardonnay has become a defining expression of their white wine portfolio.

Few varieties express terroir and craftsmanship as beautifully as Chardonnay. Originating from the historic Burgundy region of France and named after the village of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais, this celebrated grape has become one of the world’s most admired white wine cultivars. Its character is shaped as much by the vineyard as by the hands of the winemaker, allowing each expression to tell a unique story of place and time.

At Blaauwklippen, Chardonnay has become a defining expression of our white wine portfolio. In 2023, the estate proudly released its first Chardonnay vintage since 1993 - an elegant and refined wine layered with vibrant citrus, delicate orange blossom, yellow peach, and subtle notes of crème brûlée. Its creamy, buttery palate pairs effortlessly with seafood, fragrant Thai curries, and long spring afternoons shared over good conversation.

“Our Chardonnay has become one of the strongest expressions of white wine at Blaauwklippen. It captures both elegance and depth, while remaining true to our terroir and winemaking philosophy,” says Narina Cloete, winemaker at Blaauwklippen.

The 2023 Chardonnay vintage received widespread acclaim, earning 97 points at the Trophy Wine Show by Investec, 94 points and a place in the top 10 of Winemag.co.za's Prescient Chardonnay Report, as well as 91 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards. The wine further distinguished itself with Gold medals at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards and the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards, alongside a Double Gold at the Lumo Awards.

Continuing this momentum, the 2024 Chardonnay vintage secured 94 Points and another top 10 placement in the Prescient Chardonnay Report, together with Gold at the Global Wine Masters – reaffirming Blaauwklippen’s commitment to producing Chardonnay of exceptional quality and distinction.
