Harvest update from the cellarmaster
As the Cape summer reaches its stride, a new season begins in our vineyards. We are delighted to share that harvest 2026 is officially underway at Zevenwacht, with the first Chardonnay grapes being picked. This is always a moment that marks both anticipation and promise. The dry and moderate temperatures since August last year have accelerated ripening across the vineyards, bringing the harvest roughly 7 to 10 days earlier than last year. Our vineyards are showing healthy fruit development and strong canopies, setting a promising foundation for the season.
For our red varieties, sugar levels may progress quickly, so we will be monitoring tannin development closely to ensure optimal balance. We are hopeful that moderate temperatures will continue, with the possibility of some rain in mid-February. While it is still early in the season, the conditions so far are encouraging, and we are excited by the distinctive character the 2026 vintage is beginning to reveal.
