La Petite Ferme is proud to introduce The ZA Project – a pioneering collaboration between our Franschhoek estate and the talented final-year Illustration students from the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography.
This initiative brings together South African art, culture, and winemaking through a shared vision: to tell the story of our country’s creativity and terroir, one label at a time.
Art meets wine
For the 2024 vintage of our limited-edition Pinotage – The ZA, thirteen students were invited to design a label that captures the spirit of South African heritage and the essence of La Petite Ferme.
From these entries, five standout designs – by Olivia Hansen, Amelie Du Toit, Michael Diamond, Hannah Bruni, and Jolien Koen – have been shortlisted, with the winning artwork set to become the official label for The ZA Pinotage 2024.
An evolving legacy
More than just a wine, The ZA Project is designed to evolve each year – with every vintage featuring a new student-designed label. Each edition will celebrate South Africa’s artistic spirit while highlighting the next generation of creative talent.
Crafted from old-vine Pinotage grapes grown in Piekenierskloof, Citrusdal, The ZA is a rare and collectible addition to our premium range, with only 800 bottles produced annually.
A portion of proceeds from The ZA will go toward supporting South African art schools that rely on public funding – helping nurture the country’s future artists.
“The ZA Project is about more than wine. It is a celebration of creativity, terroir, and the next generation of South African artists. Each bottle tells a story that is both timeless and ever-evolving,” says Wikus Pretorius, winemaker at La Petite Ferme.
