Jordan Wine Estate
Harvest is in full swing at Jordan Wine Estate. The team shares a harvest update and other news from the estate.

Harvest 2025 is here!

Harvest is in full swing, and our winemaker, Sjaak Nelson, along with his team, is hard at work bringing in grapes.

From the beginning of February, we've started picking a range of varieties, and the first batches are looking exceptional. We've already brought in 327 tonnes so far, with much more to come. Sjaak, celebrating his 25th vintage at Jordan Wine Estate, reflects on one of the best growing seasons he's experienced, and Gary Jordan shares, "I can’t remember when last the weather was this good during harvest. The whole growing season has been fantastic."

The season started with significant rainfall, with 757mm recorded over the past year, mostly in July and August. However, since December, we've seen only 15mm of rain, which has led to dry conditions. Although we've experienced some warm days, the intense heat has been brief, with temperatures dropping dramatically at night. This balance has given us perfect conditions for flavour ripeness and acidity in the grapes.

In the vineyard, we are continuing to expand with our new plantings. Last year, we planted 11 hectares, focusing on Assyrtiko, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This year, we’ve added 9 more hectares, with another 8 hectares scheduled for next year. Our plantings are carefully chosen to adapt to climate change, with varieties such as Assyrtiko that thrive in warm, dry Mediterranean climates and maintain excellent acidity.

We are also introducing exciting new varieties, such as Mencia and Xinomavro. These varieties are well-suited to our climate and will add even more diversity to our wines.

Stay tuned for more updates as the harvest progresses. Here’s to another incredible vintage!

Welcoming our new assistant winemaker: Kim Wucherpfennig

We are thrilled to introduce Kim Wucherpfennig as our new assistant winemaker! Kim was first with us as an intern a few years ago, then stayed on, honing her craft in the cellar. After joining us full-time in late 2024, Kim has stepped into the role of assistant winemaker as we kick off the 2025 harvest.

We couldn’t be more excited to have her as part of the team.

This remarkable wine showcases the perfect balance of depth and elegance, with the use of progressive techniques like overhead fermenters, pump-overs, and gravity flow.
