At Diemersdal Estate, owned by the Louw family, six generations of tradition and innovation intertwine to create a symphony of unique and remarkable winemaking. Diemersdal lies on the cool slopes of the Dorstberg in the Durbanville wine valley, one of the Cape’s oldest wine regions and known for its unique terroir.
Climatically, Diemersdal’s proximity to the cold Atlantic Ocean to the west ensures a temperate climate with mild summers and cold, wet winters with an average rainfall of 700mm per annum.
The noble varieties that go into Diemersdal wines are grown under optimal conditions in deep red Hutton soils. Some 200ha of Diemersdal are planted with various cultivars, with Sauvignon Blanc being dominant.
Diemersdal invites you to come and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Durbanville valley while tasting their award-winning Diemersdal wines at their tasting room. There is also an on-site restaurant, The Farm Eatery, where you can feast on the flavours of the countryside in an old stable, restored with care by the Louw family.
Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a wine showing the true diversity of Cape Town terroir in one seamless blend. Blended from ten different vineyard blocks varying in age, clone and site, this wine typifies the Sauvignon Blanc grape as expressed by a leading winery committed to the variety.
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes were night harvested in January 2024, with the blocks harvested and vinified separately.
Just over a month later, on 1 March 2024, Diemersdal released the Sauvignon Blanc. It was one of the very first Sauvignon Blancs from this year's vintage to hit the market.
According to Thys Louw, Diemersdal's owner-winemaker, the early release is largely driven by the market. "As owners of an established brand, Diemersdal is in a fortunate position to have customers clamouring for our Sauvignon Blanc from the new vintage each year," he says. "This, as well as the quality of this year's grapes being conducive to a quick ferment and a short stay to settle in the tank, has allowed us to come out with one of the Cape's first Sauvignon Blancs from the 2024 vintage."
This vibrant, classically styled Sauvignon Blanc bursts with zest and freshness. It presents a brilliant lemon-lime colour. The nose is complex with an array of tropical fruit, passionfruit, ripe figs, and gooseberries. These crisp flavours repeat in the mouth, along with a mineral character. The distinctive aromas support a wonderfully balanced palate, presenting purity of ripe fruit, coupled with a lingering harmonious finish.
Enjoy Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc 2024 with summer foods and salads. Or, serve it chilled on its own.
