From a birthday party to a celebration of a centennial vintage release, here are some events the wine.co.za team attended in spring 2024.

Tokara 25th Birthday Celebration - Judy and Kevin

The first day of September sees South Africa celebrating Spring Day and Cap Classique Day. And this year, it was also the day on which we celebrated Tokara's 25th birthday! What a privilege it was to be invited to attend their 25th birthday celebrations with a few members of the media and trade. Chef Carolize Coetzee is really a star; the food was sublime. Combining the tastes with the incredible wines was a masterpiece.

Blaauwklippen Blending Competition - Judy

The Blaauwklippen Blending Competition has been running for 41 years. It must be the longest running blending competition in the world! Judy was fortunate to attend this year's competition and the lovely lunch which Blaauwklippen put on for the finalists and media in attendance on Friday 9 September 2024.

A Celebration of the 100th Vintage of Alto Rouge - Judy and Jeanine

The South African wine industry is a mix of old and new and the old was really brought home at a centennial celebration on Monday, 16 September 2024 at Alto Estate, Stellenbosch. The Alto Rouge 2022 is the 100th year of bottling this red blend. Very special. Bertho van der Westhuizen is only the 5th winemaker in 100 years – and, incredibly, 4 of those winemakers are father and sons.

30th Celebration of Haute Cabrière Charonnay Pinot Noir - Judy

What a treat to join the Haute Cabrière team on 20 September at their spectacular restaurant to celebrate their iconic Chardonnay Pinot Noir, the first blended in their cellar in 1994. To honour this momentous occasion, the team created a limited-release Chardonnay Pinot Noir field blend, the Haute Cabrière Heritage 30 Reserve. This wine is aged in amphora and blended in the vineyards – and unusual for a white wine, bottled in a 1.5l magnum bottle.

Durbanville Hills Heritage Tasting - Jeanine

Durbanville celebrates its 200th anniversary next year. In the lead up to this significant milestone, the region’s wine producers have curated a series of exclusive, small-panel tastings. The Durbanville Hills team invited Jeanine to join their tasting on Tuesday, 15 October.
