The 2022 vintage of flagship wine, Brookdale OVP Chenin Blanc, walked away with a 94 point score, described by Atkin as "rich, dry and well structured". It has "subtle nutmeg, thatch and vanilla top notes, with flavours of pear and yellow apple", and the wine is "scented by 15% new wood and a mineral core".
The 2023 vintages of Brookdale Estate’s Bradbourne White Blend and the Brookdale Sixteen Field Blend followed with scores of 93 each. Fermented and aged in older barrels, Bradbourne is a Meditteranean style blend of Grenache Blanc, with 25% each of Roussanne and Marsanne, and 12% Piquepoul Blanc, presenting flavours of "greengage, citrus and lychee and an ethereal rose petal top note".
Described by Atkin as a "stylish blend of 14 Mediterranean varieties combined with Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc", Brookdale’s Sixteen Field Blend is "fermented and aged in clay amphoras and concrete eggs, and has aromas of honeysuckle and wild herbs and a palate of peach, pear and citrus supported by palate-cleansing acidity".
In Brookdale's range of lifestyle wines, the 2023 Mason Road GSM red blend scored 93, followed by the 2023 Mason Road Syrah at 92. The 2023 GSM is "an assemblage of mostly Grenache, with 33% Syrah, 8% Cinsault and 5% Mourvedre. Floral earthy and well balanced, it has top notes of rose petal and wild herbs, and a fresh, vibrant palate of raspberry, redcurrant and pink grapefruit, supported by granular tannins".
"Outstanding value" is how Atkin describes the 2023 vintage of Mason Road Syrah. He says the wine has "plenty of granite grip and minerality, mountain herb aromas, and a palate of fennel, plum and red berries. Tasty stuff".
