Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp's wine brand donates R40 000 for student tuition at the South African Sommeliers Association.

Renowned media personality and winemaker, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, proudly announces a substantial donation of R40 000 to the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA). The donation will be directed towards the tuition of an underprivileged student at SASA, fostering opportunities for aspiring sommeliers from disadvantaged to pursue their passion and excel in the industry.

The contribution stems from the proceeds of sales of her esteemed Annabelle Shiraz wine, produced in collaboration with De Grendel Wine Estate, along with a charitable donation from KWV. This initiative reflects Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, KWV and De Grendel's unwavering commitment to making a positive impact and empowering future generations within the wine community.

Reflecting on the philanthropic endeavour, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp expressed her gratitude, stating, "Making positive change is a core value from my team and I. We made this Shiraz in the same year my daughter, Annabelle, was born, and we named the wine after her. This is the second range of wines I've worked on in the past ten years, and the process is incredibly rewarding. I am grateful to everyone who supported the journey. I wish the aspiring sommeliers well with their journeys."

"We are thrilled to partner with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp and support her philanthropic vision. This scholarship presents an extraordinary opportunity to embark on a transformative journey into the world of wine for the fortunate recipients,” says Erica Taylor, spokesperson for the South African Sommeliers Association.

“At SASA, our Introductory to the Junior Sommelier program is a meticulously crafted pathway to unlocking the prestigious sommelier profession. The comprehensive curriculum immerses students in the theoretical depths of wine knowledge while honing practical service skills and refining their tasting abilities. Once successful on this front the candidate will progress to the esteemed Junior Sommelier certification, they will gain a profound mastery of foundational sommelier expertise that will lay the groundwork for an enriching and rewarding career trajectory. This globally-recognised credential opens doors to exciting prospects in South Africa's thriving wine and hospitality industries. For the passionate individual, this scholarship represents a life-changing chance to pursue a dynamic profession.”

The donation to the South African Sommeliers Association underscores Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp's commitment to social responsibility and her dedication to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

“Creating the Annabelle Shiraz with Elana has been a highlight for us at De Grendel. It has been a rewarding and fulfilling journey, and knowing that our work supports the education and growth of aspiring sommeliers makes it even more special,” says Charles Hopkins, cellarmaster at De Grendel Wines.
