Chenin Noir is thrilled to announce the new dates for The Court of Master Sommeliers programme in South Africa. They will be offering the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS)'s Introductory Sommelier Certificate and Certified Sommelier Certificate from 8-10 September 2024.
Chenin Noir invites the Cape Town and Stellenbosch sommelier communities to take advantage of this opportunity. In partnership with the South African Sommelier Association (SASA), Chenin Noir aims to "empower the professionals that dedicate themselves to the service of food and beverage, through certifications".
Chenin Noir believes that CMS Europe is the best path for sommeliers to become globally recognised. The global positioning and opportunity that writing such exams can bring for a sommelier could be a catalyst to great growth for sommeliers on the continent.
About the Court of Master Sommeliers
The CMS's Master Sommelier certification is the most prestigious ranking any sommelier can achieve. The prestigious board was established to encourage quality standards for beverage service in hotels and restaurants, and the first African Master Sommelier examination took place at the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg. Master Sommeliers Bryan Dawes, Edouard Oger, Nigel Wilkinson and Chenin Noir South Africa concluded training and examination for the prestigious certification.
Introductory Sommelier Certificate: The Introductory Sommelier Certificate is the first level of certification offered by the Court of Master Sommeliers. It is an intensive three-day programme comprising two days of coursework and concludes with a full day of examinations. The coursework consists of lectures, tastings and a practical service demonstration. The examination consists of a multiple-choice theory test plus a short practical service test.
Certified Sommelier Certificate: The Certified Sommelier Certificate is the primary qualification for sommeliers and beverage professionals worldwide. It recognises beverage professionals whose knowledge, skills and demeanor are worthy of the title of Certified Sommelier. The programme consists of one day of examinations, and there is no coursework for this level. The Certified Sommelier examination requires significant pre-study for the theory, practical and tasting components of the examination.
