What are the winemakers saying about harvest 2024?
In early January, the warm temperatures allowed for an early start to the 2024 harvest. Beginning with Chardonnay grapes and progressing to our reds, including Cinsault, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, our viticulturist, Nico Nortje, expressed great satisfaction with the quality of the grapes.
However, after a winter marked by floods and heavy rainfall in 2023, the conditions shifted rapidly with the arrival of spring. Persistent winds during the budding and flowering stages dried out the soil, leading to a smaller crop than initially anticipated.
This year's harvest is characterised by small bunches, berries, and an overall smaller yield. Despite these challenges, the harvest holds great potential, and we eagerly anticipate the fruits of our labour.
