Two of South Africa's most talented wine writers have made Jancis Robinson's WWC23 shortlist. Vote for your favourite!

Two of South Africa's most talented wine writers have secured a place on Jancis Robinson's Wine Writing Competition 2023 (WWC23) shortlist. Voting for your favourite of the 20 shortlisted written entries closes by 8h00 UK time on Monday, 11 September 2023.

The shortlisted authors are based in nine countries, from Singapore to South Africa and the Netherlands to Malaysia. Several are professional writers, both on wine and on other topics. Many are involved in the wine trade, as sommeliers, importers or educators. Quite a few, however, are neither professional writers nor directly involved in the wine industry: there's a marketing professor, an aspiring novelist, an IT analyst, a digital marketer at Nike, a farmer and two actors.

Regardless of their disparate countries of residence and occupations, what unites these writers is their love of wine and their wish to share stories of their favourite wine people.

The two South African wine writers are Joanne Gibson and Emile Joubert.
