In partnership with the prestigious Stellenbosch Wine Routes, South African Sommeliers Association (SASA)'s esteemed competition aims to recognise and celebrate the exceptional talent within the sommelier community while promoting South Africa's vibrant wine culture.
Potential contestants are invited to participate in the quarter-finals by filling out the Google Form entry exam available HERE. Entries opened on 27 July, and will close on Sunday 27 August 2023.
The Best Sommelier of South Africa 2023 competition is an opportunity for sommeliers across the nation to showcase their expertise, passion, and dedication to the art of wine and beverage service. Contestants will be evaluated on a range of skills, including wine knowledge, blind tasting, and service etiquette.

The quarter-finalists will be announced on Friday, 1st September, following a thorough evaluation of the entries. Successful candidates will then proceed to the semi-finals and finals held on the 16th of September at the picturesque Hazendal Wine Estate. The exciting event will culminate in the announcement of the Best Sommelier of South Africa 2023.
Additionally, the Best Sommelier of South Africa 2023 competition will be held alongside the Star Wine List of the Year South Africa Awards, further elevating the celebration of excellence in the wine industry.
