Veritas Awards
Winemakers are readying themselves for this year’s Veritas Awards and entries are open for this important wine competition which they are looking forward to with wine lovers countrywide.

Participants in this year’s competition are now encouraged to enter on the new online platform which has been developed in collaboration with Veritas’s financial partner CTP/SA Litho. This makes entering information for the Veritas competition so much easier and faster. The closing date is 11 August 2023, while late entries will be accepted until 25 August 2023 at an increased fee.

Veritas prides itself in being South Africa’s oldest wine show for bottled (market-ready) wines and still being the most prominent guide to quality wines – for 33 years since 1991 –for wine consumers, restaurants, hotels and the wine trade. The importance of this from a marketing perspective has been proven over decades, not only locally but also in the international market. Winemakers and marketers are encouraged to present wines for judging and to use the results as a yardstick of quality in the marketplace.

Veritas has since its inception proven its important position in the industry. Participants use the results and accompanying bottle stickers as an exceptional marketing opportunity. In the past two years the Double Gold and Gold stickers may also show the point out of 100 which the wine scored in judging. The Vertex Award for the overall top wine entered – now known as the Duimpie Bayly Vertex Award – was introduced in 2017. Veritas is actually the only competition presented by the industry for the industry.

The judging takes place on 11 - 15 September 2023 in the Johann Graue Hall at Nederburg in Paarl. According to the practice over many years, specialist judges are appointed to all the panels to ensure that only the best expertise is employed to name the winners.

The regular use of capable overseas judges by Veritas is to be re-introduced (after being interrupted by Covid) thanks to a partnership with Dry Ice International, which has agreed to bring the group of foreign judges and tasters to South Africa.

The awards function is to be held on 13 October 2023 and, following a three-year period of lunches due to Covid, the gala dinner will again be held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC).The countrywide wine and brandy tastings which were resumed last year, are in full force again in collaboration with Veritas’s financial partner, Deloitte.

Wine lovers will again also be able to use the “VinoVeritas by CTP” app, developed by CTP/SA LItho, to order the Double Gold and Gold winners immediately following the results for free delivery by Getwine on their own doorstep.

The sponsors Nashua and Blue Nova, which joined Veritas last year, are again making a valuable contribution to Veritas’s standing as the country’s leading wine show.
