CellarDirect, subsidiary of “wine online” specialists Southern Skies, is pleased to share plans to roll out a new direct-to-customer (DtC) warehousing and fulfilment facility for South African wine producers.
Southern Skies chief operations officer, Duncan Harrison, announced today: “Our team is working tirelessly to develop a cost effective warehousing, fulfilment and last mile solution for wineries that manage direct-to-customer sales. Through an optimised in-house 'pick and pack' storage and fulfilment facility run by leading wine logistics talent through to a world class tech stack and best in class last mile service providers, we will be able to meet the increasing demands and expectations of wine consumers for the benefit of our winery vendors who use CellarDirect.”
The CellarDirect DtC warehousing and fulfilment facility is a “warehouse in a warehouse” housed within RM Logistics – SA’s leading independent on and off premise wine “walls & wheels” specialists servicing nearly 200 wineries from warehouses in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban. RM Logistics is headquartered at a new state of the art wine logistics facility in Somerset West.
Harrison goes on to say, “It’s been an exciting 3 months for our team as we evolve the CellarDirect offering to include DtC coaching, improved analytics, customer care, and world-leading wine e-commerce and club software via our recent partnership with Commerce7. The development of an optimised DtC warehouse, fulfilment and last mile solution complements these other enhancements perfectly. We have been very busy transitioning existing winery vendors onto the new platform and already have a waiting list of new vendors to be onboarded. We expect to see significant growth in vendor numbers over the next 18 - 24 months.”
The announcement of CellarDirect’s plans come hot on the heels of recent news surrounding the Southern Skies led capital raise to resource core foundational elements required for the scale of the groups collection of wine e-commerce businesses.
