Opportunity for young South Africans to embark on journey of becoming Master Sommeliers

Chenin Noir South Africa and PYDA have partnered to provide ten bursaries for wine industry professionals to study with the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Bursary: Court of Master Sommeliers introductory programme

The Pinotage Youth Development Academy (PYDA) exists to empower young, talented students to create irrevocable personal transformation and to achieve meaningful economic outcomes through collaborative efforts. PYDA works towards nurturing young individuals and providing them with the necessary guidance and resources to achieve and transform their lives positively and providing them the opportunity to enhance their skills.

In this partnership with Chenin Noir South Africa, the programme will contribute to the development of the wine industry professionals in South Africa by providing opportunities for young people to learn and grow with a globally accredited introductory certification.

PYDA is recruiting graduates who are interested in advancing their careers through the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS)'s Introductory Sommelier Certificate. This is a great opportunity open to PYDA Wine & Tourism/Marketing graduates.

Requirements to enroll for the bursary:

  • Minimum of 12 months practical hospitality experience
  • A good basic theoretical knowledge of wines
  • Good understanding of geography
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Able to study part-time for 6 months
  • Able to demonstrate financial need
  • Able to demonstrate the commitment to advance your career in the wine sector
