March 2023 was an exciting month for the wine industry as the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon competition was held in South Africa for the first time.

Harvest 2023: Eikendal harvest visit - Jeanine and Zikhona

Behold, a behind-the-scenes look at our harvest visit to Eikendal Vineyards in the Helderberg wine region. Mid March, we popped in as they were picking some of their last grapes, Petit Verdot. Meanwhile, another team was busy destemming and sorting Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The quality of the grapes indicates that Eikendal’s vintage 2023 is going to be excellent! Stay tuned.

 

2023 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon Welcoming Braai at Le Franschhoek Hotel - Jeanine

On Monday 13 March, Sauvignon Blanc South Africa welcomed 50 international wine judges to the South African Winelands. The Concours Mondial du Sauvignon the biggest and most significant international competition dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc, this year hosted outside of Europe for the first time. At the welcoming event, the judges to a proper #ProudlySouthAfrican braai at Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa.

 

A showcase of top Sauvignon Blancs from the Durbanville Wine Valley - Jeanine

At a special Durbanville Wine Valley showcase as part of 2023 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, the judges and local media had the opportunity to taste some of the top wines produced in the Durbanville Wine Valley. The event took place at Durbanville Hills on Wednesday 15 March. A regional wine safari was presented where the judges were guided along stations of canapés and a variety of white wines.

 

Unveiling of The Mentors' new look at Dusk Restaurant - Jeanine

The Mentors, KWV's premium wine range, unveiled a new look for their range at a fabulous food and wine pairing lunch at Dusk Restaurant in Stellenbosch on Wednesday 29 March. Chefs Callan and Darren prepared a special menu just for the occasion, pairing the wines with Dusk's cuisine. The menu featured interesting, delectable dishes that complemented the wines perfectly.
