With the support of our title sponsor Stellenbosch Wine Routes and additional support from PIWOSA and other secondary sponsors, we have had an incredible year. A few major highlights were the success of introducing the Introductory Sommeliers Qualification with over 200 students passing, and also having the most candidates in one year to pass the Junior Sommeliers Exam. It promises to be another huge year ahead for SASA as we introduce masterclasses to all SASA members and students. These classes will be there to help candidates prepare for exams, competitions, and much more in the sommelier world. SASA will also be continuing with the introductory sommelier qualification, which was a massive success in 2022, and will introduce new and exciting initiatives to further grow and engage our membership in 2023.

7-12 February 2023 - ASI Best Sommelier of the World
The ASI Best Sommelier of the World will be in Paris, and Jo Wessels will represent South Africa in the competition.

16 September 2023 - Best Sommelier of South Africa, Star Wine List, and WOSA Somm Summit
Best Sommelier of SA will retake place in conjunction with Star Wine List Best List South Africa awards. New to the competition day, WOSA will be hosting an event called WOSA Somm Summit bringing somms around the world to South Africa. This is to be a great competition that is not to be missed.
