SA Terroir Wine Awards 2022 at Vergenoegd Löw - Judy
The most outstanding wine terrain at this year’s 17th annual SA Terroir Wine Awards was Tulbagh, a small district not divided into wards – with this competition once again showing how several cellars from various terrains yield top quality wines in harmony with nature. 2022 Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge awards ceremony at Cavalli - Jeanine
The winners of the 2022 Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge were announced at an awards ceremony at Cavalli Estate on Friday 24 August. The announcement of the top 10 list was followed by a five-course lunch by Cavalli's Chef Lucas Carsten, paired with the award-winning Chenin Blanc wines. Amorim Cap Classique Challenge 2022 at Tintswalo Atlantic - Jeanine
The 21st Amorim Cap Classique Challenge was held on Thursday 22 September at the Chefs Warehouse restaurant at Tintswalo Atlantic in Hout Bay, Cape Town. At this fabulous event, Domaine des Dieux Claudia Brut Cap Classique 2016 was named best wine overall. During the awards ceremony, we were served lunch prepared by the talented Chef Braam Beyers, perfectly paired with the amazing selection of award-winning Cap Classiques.
Champagne Telmont Best Young Sommelier in South Africa 2022 - Jeanine, Judy & Zikhona
The South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) held the annual Best Young Sommelier in South Africa competition on Tuesday 4 October at Blaauwklippen Vineyards, Stellenbosch. The day started with nine semi-finalists, which the judges then narrowed down to three finalists: George Young (Oldenburg Vineyards), Stefan Reinmuth (Oldenburg Vineyards), and Thembani Wesley Mpande (Marble Restaurant). Blaauwklippen hosts Star Wine List of the Year South Africa - Jeanine, Judy & Zikhona
On Tuesday 4 October, Star Wine List celebrated the great wine lists of South Africa for the first time, in cooperation with the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA). Aubergine Restaurant in Cape Town won two categories: Grand Prix and Best Sparkling Wine List. Venues in Cape Town and Johannesburg won the most awards. Star Wine List's ambassador manager Liora Levi and jury member Tawanda Marume hosted the celebration at Blaauwklippen Vineyards, Stellenbosch.
Veritas Awards 2022 at Nederburg - Jeanine
Exciting highlights were reached at the stylish 32nd Veritas Awards, featuring another record number of medals to well-known brands, as well as novices, while the top trophy for the best wine entered for Veritas was clinched by the 2019 Tokara Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon. The awards ceremony was held at Nederburg on Saturday 8 October, with plenty of delicious food and award-winning wines to enjoy. There was also live music performances by Cape jazz artists. FNB Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 awards function - Jeanine
Sauvignon Blanc South Africa announced the 2022 FNB Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 winners on the evening of Thursday 13 October during a special awards function at FNB Portside in Cape Town. We were entertained with a live performance by none other than five-piece goema rock band Sunset Sweatshop.
2023 Platter's Wine Guide awards ceremony at Jordan Wine Estate - Jeanine & Judy
At a bespoke function at Jordan Wine Estate on 17 November, Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide revealed the recipients of its esteemed pinnacle awards – the wineries of the year, wines of the year, and five-star wines – for the latest edition. It was also the launch of the top-selling and collectible hardback guide, featuring a stunning cover design, the first with an elegant elemental white background, with touches of rose gold.
Malbec Challenge awards lunch at Neethlingshof - Jeanine
The Gold medal winners of the Malbec Challenge 2022 were celebrated at an casual awards lunch at Neethlingshof, Stellenbosch. The event commenced with the announcement of the overall winner of the competition – Fairview Malbec 2021. Thereafter, the rest of the medal winners were read out, with wineries like Doolhof, Dornier, La Couronne, Sonklip, and others receiving gold medals. For lunch, we enjoyed SALT at Neethlingshof Wine Garden's tasty pizzas as well as the award-winning Malbec wines. Read more HERE.
