A total of 14 Veritas Awards medals were earned by Darling Cellars!
The Gustus Chenin Blanc 2020 received a DOUBLE GOLD medal. Translated from Latin ‘gustus’ means ‘taste’ and this is what this wine is all about. This is an example of what a Darling Chenin Blanc can produce – a wine with multiple layers of fresh green apple, guava, quince and yellow ripe peaches. Lees and skin contact adds a creaminess to the wine that leaves a lingering mouthfeel, wishing for more.
Another Darling Chenin made its way to the podium: Darling Cellars Old Bush Vines Chenin Blanc 2021 being awarded a GOLD medal. This wine comes from specific old bush vines planted in 1980 and the grapes are selected for their uniqueness in prominent terroir flavours. This wine displays a medium light straw hue in the glass with a green tinge and is made in a ripe tropical style with a split personality being elegant on the one hand but serious and bold on the other.
The Darling Cellars Blanc de Blanc Brut 2019 received the second GOLD medal. This wine has a bouquet opening up with fresh lemon, lime and green apples that excites your senses. The palate is creamy with hints of baked bread and toast that broaden the palate. The wine also received a GOLD at the Amorim Cork Challenge. Darling Cellars has been producing Cap Classique since 2012, and these awards show the consistent quality delivered. We are also busy with updating the current labels on the Cap Classique and this will be available soon.
This year is a definite highlight for Darling Cellars’ winemaking team as the winery has been reeling awards from almost every notable wine competition in and beyond South Africa. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating these beautiful wines.
