Boschendal
What does regenerative farming mean at Boschendal? At Boschendal we believe that you can't have a thriving business without sustainability built into the heart of it.

We work with nature

We’re proud pioneers in regenerative farming and a global leader in championing sustainable farming practices, both locally and abroad. We believe that investing in our environment today will pave the way for a healthy and resilient ecosystem for our people, our produce, and the planet.

We're WWF Champions

After partnering with WWF for the Biodiversity Wine Initiative from 2005 - 2015, we received WWF Champion status in 2016.

We are proud to say we retain it to this day

Life on a working farm

We don’t simply want to sustain our farmland, we want to improve it and leave it better than we found it, which is where our unique regenerative farming methods come in. Our animals roam freely and restore our soil, leaving it more fertile and drought resistant

Our Black Angus cattle are constantly on the move, fertilising the soil wherever they go. Our Duroc pigs help remove invasive plants to restore the natural water flow on the farm. Our chickens produce the free-range eggs to enjoy at our eateries and they're available at the Farm Shop. The farm’s resident bees help produce plums, citrus, grapes and olives for harvest throughout the year.

Our sustainability journey

Everything we do is underpinned by a desire to work towards a fully sustainable world.

  • Regenerative farming - while working to regenerate our farm’s soil, we’re promoting biodiversity within our vineyards and the surrounding environment.
  • Soil regeneration - we work with nature to improve the quality of our soil through permaculture and organic farming practices.
  • Actively aiding conservation - we are actively working to conserve 700 hectares of our farm in alignment with The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy.
  • Embracing solar energy - we’re reducing our reliance on the national grid with power from our sun. Last year we generated 2 million kWh of solar energy for the farm.
