Experience the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

From the Korannaberg Mountains to the southern Kalahari’s red dunes rippling away to the horizon, Tswalu Kalahari offers travellers what they crave most: space and time. With a guaranteed private vehicle, guide and tracker comes the freedom and flexibility to explore this vast reserve at your own pace. Tswalu has the lowest guest footprint in South Africa.

Its low-impact, high-value approach to sustainable ecotourism funds the vital conservation work, informed by research, that is at the heart of this noble project to restore the southern Kalahari.

Your experience includes luxury full-board accommodation, dinner at Restaurant Klein JAN, and more.

A day on the water, tagging whales

Do you have good sea legs, a steady hand and an eagle eye? Well, let WWF and the University of Pretoria Whale Unit induct you as a marine biologist for a day. Tagging marine mammals is a difficult procedure and a skill that requires a high level of finesse from scientists. When a whale is at the surface, it usually comes up for a few breaths before diving down again. So, there are only a few opportunities when tagging is possible. Be a part of the ocean conservation team, and document and witness how our whales are tagged and sampled. Then head back to the lab to see how this research helps in the fight for survival of the southern right whale.

Thereafter enjoy a relaxing dinner and luxury accommodation overlooking the whales in the picturesque town of Hermanus. This adventure includes accommodation, meals and the tagging experience.

Founders Railway Carriage experience

Founders Railway Carriage, in the heart of the Eastern Cape, offers a new, exclusive use accommodation, stationed atop a hill, overlooking a magnificent valley, within the Founders private reserve. The charming carriage features an expansive outdoor deck, private swimming pool, dining area, and private boma.

Guests staying on the carriage will have a dedicated staff to set the pace of their 2 night holiday – whether that’s early morning nature walks, leisurely picnic brunches, lounging by the pool or late nights around the boma fire. Guest will enjoy a specially curated rhino conservation experience as well as a Big 5 Safari. Experience nature like never before.
