Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a key event for the world of wine, has grown so much that it's now divided into four specific events spread throughout the year.

About Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (Brussels World Competition) is a key event for the world of wine. At this rigorously organised competition, over 10 000 wines are entered by producers to be tasted and evaluated by a panel of experts.

Its primary ambition is to provide consumers with a guarantee: that it will single out wines of irreproachable quality offering a truly pleasurable drinking experience, wines from across the globe and the price points.

Twenty years' experience have enabled the competition to become a benchmark among international wine contests. Belgium can be proud to organise a unique event that is known and recognised by the wine industry and consumers worldwide.

Reputable judges, internationally renowned for their ability to assess wine, are rigorously chosen for the competition. They are international buyers and shippers, engineers and oenologists, journalists, specialist wine writers and critics, researchers, and representatives from industry organisations. In 2020, 350 international judges spanning 50 nationalities took part, a diversity that contributes to the uniqueness of the event and greater objectivity of results.

The outstanding reputation of its selection process is one of the key components of the competition’s success.

And, since 2004, the organizers have worked closely with a team of researchers from the Statistics Institute of the Catholic University in Louvain in processing results and monitoring the profile of each judge.

This is the reason why South African judges, including former Team South Africa members, are continuously invited to judge the wines at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

As much as Le Mondial de Bruxelles is a global event, it gives back to South Africa through its support to the training and travel of Team South Africa, as it does since 2019.

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2022

This year, the competition has been grouped into four specific events or "sessions", spread throughout the year. This ensures that each type of wine can be judged professionally depending on their specific characters.

  1. Rosé Wine Session: 11-13 March 2022
  2. Red and White Wine Session: 19-22 May 2022
  3. Sparkling Wine: 1-3 July 2022
  4. Sweet and Fortified Wine: 15 October 2022

Wineries entering their wines online for the Red and White Wine Session in May have until the 27 March to make sure they have their samples delivered to Brussels. In case of last-minute shipments, Team South Africa 2022 representative, Sofia, can be reached on sofia@ridon.co.za to help meeting the deadlines.

World Blind Tasting Challenge 2022

Thanks to the active support of the Mondial de Bruxelles, the selection of the Team South Africa 2022 will start in June with the launch of the South African Wine Tasting Championships!

The South African Wine Tasting Championships is the African leg of the World Blind Tasting Challenge.

Let’s bring the title back to South Africa at World Blind Tasting Challenge on 8 October 2022.
