What a busy start to the new year! From December 2021 to March 2022 Pebbles Project employed nine new staff members. Among them are teachers, a nurse, support teachers, and an IT coordinator. We also bid farewell to Stephen Digby after serving 11 years on our board, and welcome Leigh Adams as our new chairperson.
Celebrating one year with Twinings
In March we celebrated 1 year of the Twinings Pebbles Mobile Health Service in Clanwilliam. Hundreds of lives have been positively impacted through health awareness campaigns, educational talks, and partnering with local ECD centres. A highlight was gifting three new mothers a baby box full of much-needed items through the Baby Box Initiative. It is the first of its kind out in the Cederberg area. Thank you Twinings 'Sourced with Care' for making this all possible.
A new set of wheels Hillebrand
Pebbles Citrusdal received a brand new Caddy thanks to Hillebrand! It will be used to transport staff for monthly training, transport beneficiaries, farm visits, and much more! Here's to many safe and happy memories. Hoot and wave if you see us on the road!
What a lot of books I've got!
Thanks to a partnership with a non-profit called Book Dash, Pebbles received 1 800 books for our children. Book Dash with the help of volunteers, creates and prints books that African children can relate to in all 11official languages. Book Dash's vision is that “Every child should own a hundred books by the age of five”, before they enter school. And we couldn't agree more! The books donated will be gifted and sent home to all our children to read and enjoy with their parents. A few of the books will also be housed in our Mobile Book Library as well as in our reading corners within our centres.
Pebbles Academy
The Life Skills and Extramural Activities Programme forms part of the School Enrichment Programme that aims to provide comprehensive enrichment and care services. It will equip children from 6 to 18 years with the appropriate knowledge and skills leading to the holistic development of the child.
A life skills and extramural activities educator was employed in January 2022 to implement a variety of activities which include: computer literacy, library literacy, gardening in the food garden, physical education, and general sporting activities like soccer, volleyball, nature hikes, and much more.
Furthermore, the Pebbles Academy converted an empty classroom into a creative arts studio to be used by the Pebbles Academy learners.
Supporting pregnant mothers
The Pebbles clinic welcomed three new mothers to the Maternal Health Education Initiative. This initiative provides antenatal and postnatal support to pregnant women to promote healthy pregnancies. During the first workshop, we focused on mental health, healthy eating habits, danger signs to look out for during pregnancy, and most importantly pledging to no alcohol, smoking or drug use.
If you or your company would like to sponsor a baby box for these ladies please get in touch with us.
Cape Wine Auction success
The Cape Wine Auction 2022 raised R12 215 000 for charity at this year’s event. Pebbles is a proud beneficiary of this prestigious event. We had 4 lots at the auction, 3 of which were in the top10 best performing lots! We are so thankful to our supporters and wider network for making this possible.
The fundraising team says hello
During the last financial year, the fundraising team of five members raised R30 million. We aim to raise R34 million in the 2022-2023 financial year and need your help. If you have any connections with trusts and foundations, grant making entities or Corporate Social Responsibility managers please reach out to us and we will be happy to follow up on the lead.
