2021, saw the celebration of our 25th birthday, our groundbreaking acquisition and of course getting back on track after the dreaded alcohol bans that brought an abrupt halt to the South African wine industry. We saw it fitting to list a few of our collective wins that will continue to pave the way for the future of wine.co.za.
Hip, Hip, Hooray - On our 25th Birthday!
Founded by industry stalwarts Kevin Kidson and Judy Brower, wine.co.za turned 25 years old on the 28th of August this year. Many of our esteemed clients, customers and industry colleagues alike reached out to wish us well and share a few fond memories of what wine.co.za means to them. Getting out and connecting with many old and new faces, proved to be very special to our legendary co-founders Judy and Kevin.

Southern Skies Acquires wine.co.za
Our biggest highlight of the year was being approached by Southern Skies Investment Holdings for what was then a potential acquisition. In October, wine.co.za was pleased to announce its official acquisition by Southern Skies Investment Holdings – the Cape Winelands-based investment company run by Australian entrepreneur Andrew Douglas. "We are excited at the proven ability to both dream and deliver big that Andrew and his team bring to wine.co.za” said Judy Brower. “We recently celebrated wine.co.za’s 25th birthday so the timing feels perfect to hand over the reins to the next generation to write the next chapter. We will still be working on wine.co.za for a number of years to come but it means we can now start focusing our energy on some of our passion projects within the industry’’, added Judy.
This is only the beginning of something big. Watch this space.

Going, Going, Gone!
After the setback of the countless liquor bans our wine industry has endured, we have continued to see online shop sales skyrocket and do well after each alcohol ban.
"I am delighted to see that the lockdown spike in sales during 2020 was not just a flash in the pan and we can see continued purchasing online, especially with our mixed and taste packs which are very well received' Thanks to the hardworking team at wine.co.za that kept up with the influx of orders after the major liquor bans, we were able to meet every thirsty costumer's needs." this according to Judy Brower.

When we asked Judy what she has in store for 2022 she responded: "We are very excited to have launched our

Celebrating Another 25th Birthday - Happy Birthday Kleine Zalze!
The renowned winery in Stellenbosch celebrated its 25th birthday on the 28th of October, and we were invited to the auspicious occasion.
Winemaking has taken place on the estate on a small scale since 1695 but it was in 1996, when Kobus Basson and his family purchased the property, that the modern Kleine Zalze was born. In 1996 the Basson family bought Kleine Zalze and improved and developed the property whilst establishing a premium Stellenbosch wine brand. Since 1996 the family also acquired the rest of the land, once known as de Groote Zalze. Winning copious awards every season, Kleine Zalze certainly shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Here's to another 25 years!
