The international and local market for rosés is steadily increasing and a good trend to keep an eye on. “Pinotage Rosé proves that rosés do not represent one consistent wine style. The winemakers have stepped up and truly showcase how delicate Pinotage can be. We should start marketing these amazing wines more aggressively”, says De Wet Viljoen, Vice-Chairman of the Pinotage Association.
The panel of judges who selected the 2021 winners of the Pinotage Rosé competition where Wilhelm Pienaar, Wikus Human, Rüdger van Wyk, Elsa du Plessis and Charles Hopkins. They concurred that the good vineyard practises and excellent cellar management was clear in the quality of this category. 2021 has been a good year for the winemaker and his team to show off their tenacity and resilience.
“Pinotage is a uniquely South African wine varietal and through this partnership, Absa is supporting excellence in the wine industry and South African agriculture at large. On behalf of Absa, I would like to congratulate the 2021 Pinotage Rosé winners,” Adri Esterhuyse says.
Several winners of this years Pinotage Rosé competition, have in the past won a place in the coveted Absa Top 10 Pinotage competition. Attesting to their ability to make an award winning Pinotage Rosé.
