Stellenbosch dominates with nine wines in the Top 10 of the Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2021.

This year’s Cabernet Sauvignon Report sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient attracted 86 entries received from 71 producers and these were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.

The Top 10 emerged as follows with:

94-points
Brampton Roxton Black 2017
Neil Ellis Stellenbosch 2019
Warwick The Blue Lady 2017
Rust en Vrede Single Vineyard 2018

93-points
Kruger Family Reserve 2018 (Stellenview Premium Wines)
Paserene Midnight 2019
Stark-Condé Stellenbosch 2018
Stellenbosch 1679 2018 (Koelenhof)
Vergelegen Reserve 2015
Zorgvliet 2018

It was an extraordinary showing from Stellenbosch with nine of the Top 10 from this district, the only exception being Paserene Midnight 2019, consisting of 50% Elgin and 50% Tulbagh fruit.

“This is the 10th annual CabSauv Report and the category seems to be in a great space right now – the wines show the sort offruit definition that was rare a decade ago but producers are also managing to retain finesse and complexity,” says Christian Eedes, panel chairman and Winemag.co.za editor.
