Growing up in rural Eastern Cape, Justin Corrans saw his first vineyard when he started his studies in Stellenbosch. His background in Microbiology developed his interest in the scientific side of winemaking and he found himself moving from the laboratory to production, landing his first job at Distell.
Corrans joined KWV relatively recently, taking over the winemaking reigns in 2020 but speaks with passion of KWV's history, a company that has been around for 102 years. Born out of a crisis in the local wine industry, the Koöperatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging (KWV) saw collaborative minds working together to save an industry. It served that purpose until the late 90s with plenty of groundbreaking work done in developing winemaking techniques and clones and still builds on that legacy today.
With the 2021 harvest around the corner, Corrans is positive that a good season and harvest lies ahead, with confidence in a very experienced winemaking and viticulture team and some of the best vineyards to choose from.
