Durbanville Hills
Fondly known as the Oscars of the South African wine competitions, the Veritas Awards has awarded Durbanville Hills with five gold medals for their cool climate wines. The competition is the longest-running and most prestigious for wine and brandy excellence, and this year 1300 entries were judged by 64 wine connoisseurs.
Cellarmaster Martin Moore says it’s enormously satisfying to see gold medals awarded to wines across their various ranges, including much older vintages.
“Each of our range of wines holds the true DNA of our cool climate location and expresses fruit forward, exceptional balance and structure regardless of the cultivar. Our endless variety of slopes and hills, close proximity to the ocean with its cooling sea breezes and early morning mist, makes winemaking a joy!”
“Although many wines are produced for early enjoyment, we have found over the years that the longevity of our wines has rewarded us years after bottling. It’s for this very reason that I am so pleased to see that two of our wines from older vintages have taken favour by the judging panel.”
The gold medal winners are:
- The Tangram Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon 2017
- Collectors Reserve The Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc 2018
- Cape Honey Bee Noble Late Harvest 2018
- Blanc de Blancs Method Cape Classique 2012
- Rhinofields Merlot 2008
