This year’s Signature Red Blend Report convened by Winemag.co.za and sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient is now out.

There were 45 entries from 39 producers and 27 rated 90-plus on the 100-point quality scale.

The 10 best wines overall are as follows:

Boschendal Black Angus 2017
Boschendal Nicolas 2017
De Krans Tritonia Calitzdorp Blend 2017
Guardian Peak SMG 2017
Joostenberg Bakermat 2017
Org de Rac Die Waghuis Red 2018
Org de Rac Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2019
Rust en Vrede Estate 2017
Tierhoek Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2019
Warwick Three Cape Ladies 2017

“The purpose of the Signature Red Blend tasting is to explore to what an extent an authentically South African blend is emerging,” says Christian Eedes, chairman of the tasting panel and Winemag.co.za editor. “It seems, however, that there is still a lot of experimentation going on with a very wide range of varieties and styles being used – that’s to be encouraged but it makes difficult to discern any meaningful trends.”
