The women of Nederburg are a force to be reckoned with. Led by cellarmaster, Lizelle Gerber, with a military background, they have a good example.
Lizelle has now been at the steer of things at the historic Paarl producer for a full year. "Nederburg is a winery with a great legacy as a quality producer in South Africa", Lizelle remarks. Her winemaking philosophy is simple - respect the grapes. "It all starts in the vineyard" might have become a cliché but Lizelle sticks to her guns when it comes to this approach.
The former city girl found her way to the winelands after a year in the military, trying to find her calling. After a visit to Elsenburg winemaking college, she loved the farming experience and enrolled for her winemaking studies.
She predicts 2020 to be a great vintage for reds with high hopes also for Chardonnay and Chenin.
