Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards
With the South African wine industry being crippled by the reintroduction of the alcohol sales ban, producers’ only hope for survival is exports. Participate in this FREE three-day online training course.

To help get wine businesses export-ready, the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards - in partnership with Wesgro, Wines of South Africa (WOSA), the SA Wine Industry Transformation Unit, Cannon Asset Managers (a member of Bidvest Group) and Hillebrand - will be hosting a free, three-day online training course.

Taking place on the 14th, 17th and 21st of August 2020 over Zoom, the course, coordinated by The Loudhailer, will be geared towards wine companies wanting to start exporting as well as those already active in the export space and will cover:

  • Export markets, what to consider and how to approach them;
  • Labelling requirements, customs regulations and matching wines to global markets;
  • Customers and suppliers;
  • Global and local factors influencing exchange rates;
  • Export certifications and logistics;
  • Export pitfalls; and
  • Available export business support.

Each three-hour session will be packed with insights and valuable information from industry and export experts including Denan Kuni, Head: International Trade and Development at Wesgro ;  Siobhan Thompson, CEO of WOSA;  Dirk Harris, Director at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards; Dr Adrian Saville, CEO of Cannon Asset Managers (Pty) and Wendy Petersen,  Transformation Operations Manager at the SA Wine Industry Transformation Unit and Wietske Lambrechts, Operations Manager at Hillebrand.

Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris says: “The domestic ban on alcohol has negatively impacted the liquor and wine industries, but it has also forced a wide set of stakeholders to work together to drive exports as the only available sales channel. The Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards is a competition dedicated to increasing sales and marketing for local producers internationally, and the training course is yet another way we, along with our partners, are supporting local producers in moving a step closer to broadening their global market.”
