We introduce you to Richard Duckitt from Bellingham, as he chats with Johann Myburgh from Radio Helderberg. This is the 5th in wine.co.za's monthly ''Meet the Winemaker'' interview series.

Born and raised in Darling, Richard Duckitt's winemaking career has led him to historic Franschhoek estate, Bellingham.

Bellingham dates back to 1693. "A farm of many firsts", as Duckitt calls it. Bellingham released the Cape’s very first Rosé in 1951. Then followed South Africa’s first dry white wine in 1953, and the country’s first single cultivar Shiraz in 1957.

"I love being a winemaker. Every day will be different, not a lot of routine. It's also broken down into seasons, which I really like", says Duckitt who has been at the head of winemaking at Bellingham since 2017.

"We're all about quality and consistency. If you're looking for a good glass of wine, you don't have to look further than Bellingham."

Bellingham Wines is a trusted brand. The wines all have a story to tell, of old vineyards and unique sites. Listen below if you want to learn more about Bellingham and how they are dealing with the effects of Covid-19 on winemaking.
