Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards
The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards has confirmed that planning for the judging of 2020 entries in August is going ahead as previously announced.

The 2020 details are:

  • Competition opens for online entries: Monday 1 June
  • Deliveries of wine samples: Monday 13 July – Friday 31 July at Longridge Wine Estate
  • Judges tasting: Monday 17 August to Saturday 22 August
  • Awards ceremony: Friday 2 October at Tsogo Cape Sun, Cape Town
  • Entry fees remain the same as 2019: R1 150 &VAT
  • R1 150,00 per entry (excl VAT). This applies to Wine, Spirits and Liqueur entries. International entries: 95€/75£/95$

“We at Michelangelo take cognisance of the crisis the wine industry has been experiencing due to the government’s bans and restriction on alcohol sales and exports,” says Michelangelo founder and organizer of the annual competition, Lorraine Immelman. “For this reason, we are showing our compassion and support for our industry by maintaining the 2019 entry fees.

“Planning and executing this year’s competition will undoubtedly be a unique challenge,” she says.  While Michelangelo needs to go ahead as planned, it is critical that the safety of our judges and staff is guaranteed at all times. “At this point the main challenge will be to secure our judging panels, and it is a game of wait-and-see regarding the status of international travel in August.”

“Various contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that every product entered will as always receive a fair judging by the best judges available from around the globe at the time.  Medal stickers on 2020 winning bottles will still – as always – convey a message of quality to the consumer and remain a unique marketing tool for our winning producers,” Lorraine concludes.
