Celebrating 80 years of winemaking at Delheim, visiting the dreamy Peter Falke, the reinvention of the Nederburg Auction... See our photos of our time out and about in the winelands.

One of the most special events of the year saw Delheim celebrating 80 years of winemaking and honouring the legendary Spatz Sperling. Peter Falke was as dreamy and romantic as ever on a Thursday afternoon. We saw the reinvention of the Nederburg Auction as the Cape Fine and Rare Wine Auction and spent a night at Bosjes. Follow our photos of our time out and about in the winelands...

Delheim celebrates 80 years years - Judy

There are less and less family-owned wine farms in South Africa, and so it was wonderful to spend time with the Sperling family at Delheim as they celebrated 80 years of wine-making! Spatz Sperling was larger than life and made an incredible impression on so many people, and his legacy lives on with the little office museum room which is set up just as Spatz had it with an old type-writer - and their new Iconoclast Wine - a wonderful Cape Blend, celebrating the iconoclast which Spatz was - always questioning and challenging the status quo

Dreamy and hopelessly romantic Peter Falke - Sheryl

The name Falke evokes a certain sense of panic in me when I think of me with my bright Falke socks tucked neatly into my Solomon’s scaling a mountain albeit in gasping breaths. The farm Peter Falke has the opposite effect. There you want to take your Falke socks off and toss your Solomon’s to the curb. The place demands time out whilst you stare at the Helderberg Mountains calling your name in the distance, not now you might be thinking coyly.

Over the years I have watched the table capacity grow, the staff increase and the rose garden flourish.

Bosjes - a gem in the countryside - Judy

I was fortunate enough to spend a night at the intimate Bosjes Guest House recently and had a wander around their garden.  Their avant-garde architecture has captured many and their piece de resistance is their curved chapel, which hosts many weddings.

Cape Fine & Rare Wine Auction 2019

Global and local wine commentators are unanimous in their enthusiasm for the high quality of wines South African winemakers have achieved in the past few years. At the end of play on Saturday 19 October 2019, collective hammer prices were captured totaling R 2 623 000.
