To date there are around 40 wine farms in the country, spanning four states and seven wine regions. South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) will be presenting a tasting on the wines of India.
Hosted by SASA board member Wayve Kolevsohn, and co-hosted by winemaker Nic van Aarde of Oldenburg wines, and SASA Member and Cape Town Co-ordinator Erica Taylor.
Nic spent one and a half years as consultant winemaker for Zampa/Grover in Nashik, the "Wine Capital of India" (situated about 165km North East of Mumbai), from 2009 to 2011. Nic will give a winemaker's insight into the wines, winemaking practices and vineyards of India and will be showing a sparkling rosé produced by LVMH-owned Domaine Chandon in Dindori, Maharastra.
Erica spent six years in Mumbai and six months working on the Soma Vineyard in Nashik. Erica will be showing a mix of commercial and boutique examples of Indian wines, made up of two reds and three whites all of noble variety.
And to make things even more interesting, we will blind taste a still rosé from the region, and a famous Indian Dark Rum!
