Winter Wine Tasting aboard a Luxury Cruiser in Gauteng

If you are looking for something to cheer up your winter blues, you can do no better than to take a quick 45-minute drive down to the Vaal River Wine Expo.

This popular annual Gauteng event is on Saturday the 22nd June and is hosted right on the banks of the Vaal River at Stonehaven on Vaal and Riverside Sun Hotel.  Both venues are connected together by a short pleasant meander along the banks of the Vaal River.

The Vaal River Wine Expo starts at 12 midday and goes on till 5pm, gates close at 4pm however, for those wanting to stay longer and chill afterwards, food and bars will be available after the wine tasting stalls close at 5pm, as well as cosy fireplaces to snuggle up to.

Entrance is at Stonehaven on Vaal, the R200 adult entry ticket can be bought at Computicket and at Stonehaven on Vaal and includes a complimentary wine tasting cruise aboard a luxury cruiser past Millionaire’s Mile (30-minutes), unlimited tastings of over 200 different wines and a branded glass.  There are lots of comfy outdoor seating on the manicured lawns of the river banks with great views of the river where you can relax to the sounds of live music in the soft warm winter sun.

There are also stalls of interest, including local artists displaying their talents, interesting food stalls as well as a restaurant and pub if you are wanting something more substantial. 

For those wanting to bring their families along, there are lots of activities for the children (all complimentary) including tree houses, sand play area, table tennis, face painting and inflatables. There is no entrance charge for under 18’s and if they wish to also enjoy a river cruise, cruising tickets are R50 for 12 and under and R90 up to 17 years of age – the wine tasting cruise is free of charge for adult ticket holders.

The Vaal River Expo on Saturday the 22nd June is the official launch of Gauteng’s 6-week Vaal River Meander Wine Route which begins the following day on Sunday the 23rd June.  The Vaal River Meander Wine Route is on every Saturday and Sunday from midday to 6pm at a dozen venues on and around the banks of the Vaal River. 

Visitors can visit any of the venues along the Wine Tasting Route as each of the venues will showcase different wines and added attractions such as dining specials, spa packages, food & wine pairing, cruises and more up until Sunday the 4th of August. Each venue charges R30 for tastings of 8 wines, and some venues have 12 wines to taste at R40 and 16 wines at R50.
